Restorative Justice practices, PBIS (Positive Behavioral Intervention Systems), and MTSS (Multi Tier Support Systems) – are all behavior modification tools that sound good but actually have the opposite effect of what they promise. They are really just leniency policies that shield students from the natural consequences of bad behavior which only ends up emboldened the bad behavior. The violence and bad behavior will continue to increase as long as these tools are employed. They are the same policies that caused the Parkland Florida school shooting in 2018.
SEL (Social Emotional Learning), and CRT (also known as Culturally Responsive Teaching, Culturally Relevant Teaching, or Critical Race Theory) are also CREATING these toxic environments…not solving them.
Why Meadow Died is a text that outlines these policies and delineates how they play out in real time.
