Despite the people’s voice, USBE votes to keep PORN in schools

On, June 29, 2022, UtahEd.info put forth a call to action asking the USBE to take a bold stand against porn in schools.  Over 400 members of the public put forth assertions of support for a solid “model policy” that would trigger a rule for Utah Code 53G-10-103 (HB374, the piece of code the board has been purposely avoiding for months).

Despite the public outcry in support of member Cline’s model policy,  11 members of the board voted to continue to allow porn in Utah schools with NO clear guidance for LEAs.

It is our hope that District 11 (represented by Cindy Davis) is taking notice that only two days after the primary election, they have put their faith in a defender of pornography and a coward when standing for the innocence of children.

Member Carol Lear (also up for re-election this year) believes the Board should abrogate they supervision responsibilities.  She stated, “whether or not they [LEA’s] follow the law (or not) is the job of the courts, [not USBE].”

Today is historical as Utah State Board of Education officially voted to defend pornography in schools.  In turn, Utah’s parents will continue to get the run around and activist teachers/librarians will continue to run amok.

Perhaps we should let the board know how disappointed we are they chose not to produce clear and consistent state guidance to LEAs and once again they have refused to actionably address the depiction of sex, sex acts, or humans in the state of sexual arousal from our schools (whether it be aural, visual or written).

Once again, they have refused to act. The meeting was adjourned without a final vote for a model policy.
